In an exclusive interview with Iran Nuances, Mohsen Naziri Asal, Iran’s envoy to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), discussed the recent meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors. He characterized the meeting as “routine”, noting that “despite anticipation from some Western nations, only a limited number of countries joined their statement, similar to previous instances”. This, he suggested, indicates that “member countries and observers are seeking a peaceful resolution to Iran’s nuclear issue, adhering to international criteria and standards applicable to all”.
He further noted that “the statement, which was endorsed by a specific group of Western countries and their allies, did not introduce any new perspectives and merely repeated their previous positions”.
Naziri further elaborated, “During the meeting pertaining to Iran, several countries, which are our allies and have expressed concerns about views and attitudes rooted in double standards, put forth their principled stances. A noteworthy development was the support extended by nine countries through a statement endorsing Iran’s peaceful nuclear program. This statement underscored all the advancements made during this period and highlighted Iran’s cooperation with the agency. It emphasized that Iran has honored its commitments in good faith, and advocated for the continuation of cooperation between Iran and the agency. The statement also cautioned that external interference would not aid this cooperation but rather complicate the issue.”
