In a maneuver bolstering bilateral military ties and as part of an agreement, the Makhachkala, a Russian guided-missile destroyer, has berthed at Iran’s northern Caspian Sea port of Anzali. Home to the Iranian Navy’s Northern Fleet, the port made for a docking destination for the vessel, which sailed into Iranian territorial waters on Tuesday.
Such a voyage primarily serves to uphold the articles of the Joint Commission for Military Cooperation between Russia and Iran, per a statement released by the Iranian Army’s public relations office.
Further to the missive, it delineated that this naval collaboration also intends to foster bilateral maritime ties, cultivate maritime diplomacy, and facilitate port visits, in addition to executing the primary mission.
In line with this engagement, the itinerary of the Russian envoy includes a tête-à-tête with the Commander of the Northern Fleet, exploration of the city of Bandar-e Anzali and its adjoining duty-free zone, participation in athletic contests, and the Passex joint naval drills.
