Faisal bin Farhan, Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister, is slated to make his way to Tehran on Saturday, June 17, engaging in conversations with Iranian officials. This momentous trip aims to expand bilateral relations and address significant regional issues, a source told Iran Nuances.
The visit arrives in the wake of Iran and Saudi Arabia’s public declaration, dating back to March 10, 2023. In a joint statement, the two nations, after seven years of rift, announced their restored diplomatic relations from Beijing, China. The foreign ministers from both countries convened in Beijing on April 6, and then again in Cape Town, South Africa on June 2, on the sideline of BRICS foreign ministers’ assemblage.
In May 2023, Iran’s Minister of Economy, Ehsan Khandouzi, ventured forth to Jeddah, where he met his Saudi counterpart amid the annual Islamic Development Bank conference in the city. The two ministers embarked on discussions encompassing the augmentation of economic connections, including private sector involvement.
Marking progress in the bilateral relations, Alireza Bikdeli, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular Affairs, spearheaded a delegation to Saudi Arabia, officially reopening the Iranian Embassy in Riyadh on June 6. The Iranian consulate general and the mission to the Organization of the Islamic Conference in Jeddah were officially reopened on June 7.
In preparation for the resumption of a diplomatic presence, the Saudi side has executed the necessary arrangements for the reopening of its embassy in Tehran and consulate general in Mashhad. An official proclamation of the reopening is anticipated at the earliest possible time.
Akin to his Saudi colleague, the Iranian Foreign Minister is poised to reciprocate a visit to Saudi Arabia in the future.
