Indirect talks between Iran and the United States, which began today, Saturday, April 26, at 10:00 AM local time in Muscat, Oman, have concluded. Delegations will return to capitals for further consultations.
A notable feature of this round is the parallel holding of both technical and political discussions. At the high political level, the Iranian team is led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, while the US team is headed by Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff.
Leading the Iranian technical team are Deputy Foreign Ministers Majid Takht Ravanchi and Kazem Gharibabadi. The US technical and expert team is led by Michael Anton.
Following the talks, Iranian Foreign Minister said, “Today’s talks were more serious than previous rounds, gradually entering detailed and technical discussions. Written views were exchanged multiple times in a serious, business-like atmosphere. Differences exist on broad issues and details. Issues will be reviewed in capitals by the time that the next round resumes.”
Araghchi also said that the next round of Ithe talks will likely be held next Saturday, May 3rd, with Oman updating the the two sides on the final date and location. He maintained that nuclear experts from the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran will likely join Iranian delegation for the next round.
“Some differences are serious, some less so. Our movement has been good so far and we’re satisfied with the process. Both sides are serious. I’m hopeful about reaching a deal, but yet cautious. We’re now moving from generalities to more technical issues”, added Iranian FM.
