The Russian Foreign Ministry has once again expressed its strong opposition to the use of pressure and threats, including military action, against Iran, emphasizing the need for a negotiated solution to the ongoing issues surrounding Iran’s nuclear program.
Maria Zakharova, Spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, responding to a question from “Iran Nuances” regarding Moscow’s view on increasing sanctions as well as threats from American officials against Iran, including the use of the term “bombing,” said, “We have repeatedly stated that resorting to military methods by Iran’s enemies in the context of a settlement is illegal and unacceptable.”
The Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman then pointed to some of the consequences of such a scenario, stating, “External threats to attack Iran’s nuclear infrastructure are also unacceptable due to the large-scale radiological and humanitarian consequences for the Middle East region and the world as a whole.”
She further emphasized Moscow’s commitment to the diplomatic path, stating, “We are staying true to the course of finding a viable, stable and negotiated solution that will lead to eliminating Western prejudices and misunderstandings about Iran’s nuclear program and the use of nuclear energy”, consistent with Iran’s participation in international frameworks.
The statements by the Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman come as Moscow has repeatedly expressed its readiness to assist in talks between Iran and the United States.
