Vyacheslav Volodin, the chairman of Russia’s State Duma (the Russian parliament), said that the vote to approve the recently-assigned Iranian-Russian Treaty — a procedure required for such international documents — would be held soon.
The ratification of the Iranian–Russian Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership is prioritized in the Duma agenda for this April, Volodin shared in a talk with parliamentary journalists on March 31, 2025.
According to the chairman, the assignment of this document by the presidents of both countries on January 17, 2025, is a highly important event in the history of the mutual relations.
“The Treaty specifically focuses on strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation, including the international parliamentary organizations and the Commission for Cooperation between the State Duma and the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran”, Volodin pointed out. This Commission is a new form of cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries, “which allows solving specific issues thanks to bilateral interaction”.
Chairman Volodin recalled that among other things, the Treaty covers the areas of defense, security and counter-terrorism, the development of industry, energy, agriculture, education, and culture.
Also, in 2024, the Russian-Iranian trade had over 13% increase, Volodin added.
