Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is slated to travel to Russia next month, marking a significant step in the deepening of bilateral ties between Tehran and Moscow. The Iranian ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali, announced the impending visit, stating that a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement is set to be signed during the high-level meeting.
Jalali conveyed that both Iran and Russia are prepared to finalize the accord. “The President’s visit to Russia on January 17th will be pivotal,” Jalali declared, “with the strategic partnership agreement between our two nations slated for signature by President Pezeshkian and his Russian counterpart, President Vladimir Putin.”
This forthcoming agreement builds upon the foundation laid by the 2001 Treaty of the Foundation of Mutual Relations and the Principles of Cooperation. Initially established as a ten-year accord, its term was later extended for several times, with the last one to 2026.
The comprehensive partnership pact under consideration represents a framework for the bilateral relationship, as it is designed to shape the trajectory of cooperation between the two countries across diverse sectors for the next two decades.
