Iran’s Foreign Minister, Hossein Amirabdollahian, has embarked on a journey to New York to attend a meeting of the UN Security Council.
On Wednesday, en route to New York, he made a brief visit to Istanbul, Turkey, where he spent time at the Iranian Consulate General.
The Security Council’s meeting is slated for Thursday and will deliberate on the recent developments within the Middle East, including the situation in Gaza. It is anticipated that the session will also address the escalating tensions between Iran and Israel.
Following an assault on the consular division of the Iranian embassy in Damascus by Israel, Iran executed a series of missile and drone strikes in retaliation. While Tel Aviv has signaled intentions to respond to Iran’s countermeasures, the United States has expressed opposition to such actions.
