Iran’s chief negotiator Ali Bagheri Kani and the European Union’s top negotiator Enrique Mora are currently engaged in discussions in Doha, according to a source who spoke to Iran Nuances on the condition of anonymity.
The source revealed that the talks, which were scheduled for Tuesday night and Wednesday, cover a range of topics including the “JCPOA and other international issues.”
Bagheri, today in tweet after the session, described his meeting with Mora as a “serious and constructive” discussion on “a range of issues including negotiations on sanctions lifting.”
Mora also said the talks were “intense” and “on a range of difficult bilateral, regional and international issues, including the way forward on the JCPOA.”
Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian was also in Doha yesterday where he met with Qatar’s Emir and Foreign Minister before jetting off to Oman for meetings with officials in Muscat. And last week, Mohammad Reza Farzin, the head of Iran’s Central Bank, made a trip to Doha to meet with his Qatari counterparts.
Qatar and Oman have been playing mediator in indirect talks between Iran and the United States for several months now. The main focus of these talks has been the exchange of prisoners between the two countries and the release of Iran’s frozen funds in South Korea. In light of this, the discussions between Bagheri and Mora take on added significance.
